WRITING TASK 2 - 7.0+ / IMAGES
News stories on TV and in newspapers are very often accompanied by pictures. Some people say that these pictures are more effective than words.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
There is now a heated debate about whether visuals are more efficient in the media than text. I completely agree that they are because of the image's capacity to elicit emotions and be more engaging.
The primary reason I believe photos are undeniably more effective than language is their capacity to evoke feelings. That is to say, they can trigger a mood or induce contemplation in the audience. According to some studies, this may be because people's brains encode visuals at a rate twice that of words. A good example of this is how few people were moved or emotionally shaken by what several think pieces and articles said during the Vietnam War in 1963. However, the photograph of Thich Quang Duc, also known as the Burning Monk, sparked a public outcry that eventually led to the US government's reforms in the war.
Another justification for my support of the notion that visual content is more efficient than words is that it is more captivating. This is because humans are visual beings, so appealing pictures attract us. For instance, social media marketing campaigns that feature visuals receive a higher click-through rate than those that do not, and info-graphics can help drive more traffic to a website. Moreover, according to science, reading text alone is insufficient for humans; visual material, such as pictures, is easier to recall and more engaging.
In conclusion, I totally agree that visual information will always be more effective on an inherent level of human nature than words. This is because images have the capacity to evoke emotions and are more captivating . Given this case, media groups should make better use of pictures in communicating.
