TASK 2 WRITING/BAND 7.0+ - WATER
The amount of drinkable water for people is decreasing.
Why is this?
What can be done?
The decrease in potable water is a major issue in many nations. The rising population and the excessive use of water by developed countries are the two main causes of this, and the best solutions are education and governmental regulation.
Populations, which have almost tripled in the last century, cause fresh water to decrease. A good example of this is that there are over a billion people now living in China and India compared to just a few hundred million a hundred years ago, which means significantly increasing the amount of water usage daily. Moreover, water is an infinite resource, and developed nations such as the USA or Germany not only heavily consume their own water but also import it. Research estimates that each person who lives in developed countries uses about 348 liters of water a day compared to those in developing countries who only use around 5 liters on average. Evidently, this extravagant water use is an additional reason for the reduction in water.
Despite the causes, education and government intervention could be the most viable solutions to tackle this issue. Individuals need to be aware of the severe effects of water shortages so that they can improve this problem by actively reducing their water wastage. The government, on the other hand, can impose limitations on water usage, such as by putting a restriction on lawn watering, taxing industrial water consumption, or encouraging people to take showers instead of baths to effectively conserve fresh water and prevent water scarcity.
In conclusion, unsustainable growth in the population and developed nations' immoderate use of water are the root causes of the water decline, and solutions all relate to education and the government enacting restrictions. These are concrete steps to mitigate its negative impacts on modern society. (296 words)
