Nowadays, families are not as close as in the past and a lot of people have become used to this.

Why is this happening?
Do the advantages of this trend outweigh the drawbacks?

The majority of modern family members have become increasingly distant. In my opinion, it is mostly due to technological dependence, and this tendency has more drawbacks than benefits.

On the one hand, the major cause of this phenomenon relates to technological addiction. This is because individuals get hooked on gadgets and leave no time for their families. For example, it is evident that most adults these days tend to spend time watching movies or engaging in social media activities, while youngsters often prefer to immerse themselves in online gaming rather than interacting with each other. Conversely, if family members could strike a balance between their digital addiction and real-world lives, they could then unplug from screens and have more quality time with their loved ones.

On the other hand, despite its undeniable positives, such as helping people relax and significantly assisting them in their work and studies, there are considerable negative aspects to this trend. To begin with, it promotes a sedentary lifestyle, which is usually associated with a number of health-related issues. For example, sitting in front of a screen for an extended period of time without exercise or rest can result in serious illnesses such as diabetes, obesity, or cardiovascular diseases, as well as eye disorders. Moreover, the lack of honest communication for a long time could lead to the loss of affection and admiration amongst the family members. This can severely affect children's development, and parents will find it difficult to compensate. 

In conclusion, the increasing reliance on technology is the main cause of family distance, and I would argue that this trend has more negative consequences than its limited benefits. Thus, this needs to be addressed immediately to mitigate the effects it is having on current society. (291 words)
