BAND 7+ TASK 2 - RESEARCH
Scientific research should be carried out and controlled by the governments rather than private companies.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is suggested that scientific research should be implemented and put under the control of authorities rather than private institutes. I am completely opposed to this due to the potential contribution from corporations and the benefits of outsourcing research.
The main reason I believe scientific research should be conducted by private companies is that most of them are usually motivated to contribute to social good. For example, pioneered corporations like Google or Pfizer have brought such breakthrough achievements both in technology and medicine, such as the Google search engine or the development of the Covid-19 vaccine, which significantly benefit the public. Furthermore, not only do they usually have a bigger budget, but there are also more talented employees as well as visionary leaders than the government. Conversely, great achievements would hardly be completed under the control of authorities for those aforementioned reasons.
Another reason is that independent firms can outsource their research, which leads to more well-rounded results. Third parties could work more freely and focus on their specialisms without having to go with the corporate flow. Hence, they are more likely to come up with the "right findings." In contrast, if being put under pressure and bias, which is common among government researchers, working teams could be more likely to present tainted results. Consequently, this could lead to significant societal harm.
In conclusion, I completely disagree that research should be conducted and put under the surveillance of the government due to the great contribution and the ability to achieve superior results from private enterprises. This should be seen as a standard for all future scientific studies. (267 words)
