TASK 2 BAND 7+ / NEWS
Some people believe that international news is more important than local news.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
There is a heated debate relating to whether global news is more essential than provincial coverage. I will examine this question from both points of view and then explain why I believe that an awareness of world events is more crucial.
On the one hand, advocates of community media frequently emphasize its superior relevance. In other words, it often offers more relevant and practical information for residents in a specific area. For example, by following local market research in the papers, business owners can reach out to local prospective customers as well as employees who can search for and apply for jobs more efficiently and successfully. Global news, on the other hand, tends to center on macro statistics and figures over which ordinary citizens have little control or influence.
However, proponents of multinational news often argue that it is the most effective means of staying informed about a variety of worldwide intersecting concerns. They point out that its global connection characteristic provides the majority of people with various pressing matters, such as politics, social, medical, or changes in the economy in one nation, which often trigger shifts to others. A good example of this would be during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the support of the international mass media, individuals could warn, share, and gather vital knowledge about the virus to significantly prevent and restrict the spread of the plague. Otherwise, the disease's ripple effect would have a considerable impact on mankind and, in the worst-case scenario, may lead to human extinction.
In conclusion, both arguments have validity. On balance, however, I feel that international press provide a broad and unique perspective on the most critical topics as well as have a greater influence on humanity as a whole. Thus, they are more important. Individuals ought to find ways to approach a diverse array of worldwide news. (308 words)
